DID YOU KNOW ? ? ?
Here's some known and some little known things about Dan Seals. Hope you enjoy them. Some will make you shake your head in amazement while others will give you a laugh. It all goes to prove that Dan's human just like the rest of us.
These little tidbits have been collected over a number of years.
A few years ago Dan and his Manager visited a few stores in the Nashville area. After finishing up they returned to Hendersonville to locate some yellow roses for Dan's wife, Andi, for Valentine's Day. While at the florist's Dan realized that he had left his coat in Nashville. On the way to retrieve the coat, Dan received a call from Andi telling him that the florist had called and that he had left his credit card at the their store.
Dan's baby sax goes back to his 9th grade high school band days. He wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps and play in the school band.
Dan's a jack of all trades. Not only has he driven cabs, he's worked on loading docks, made patio covers, and worked in a paint store among other things. He's also found time to coach a local little league team.
On Dan's first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry he was so nervous that he managed to forget some of the words to "Everything That Glitters Is Not Gold". The normally quiet Opry audience also did a "Wave" to one of Dan's songs.
Dan did an entire performance at Billy Bob's in Texas one year wearing a duster. After the show, he calmly walked up to his family sitting at a table and revealed to all that he was only wearing a pair of shorts and his boots under the duster.
During a four year span in the mid 80's every single that Dan released vaulted to the #1 position on the charts.
Bop was the 2nd most played single record in the '80's.
In recent years Dan's worked closely with the Voice Of America. He's performed in such places as Bulgaria - for over a million people - Kazakhstan in Russia, India, Thailand and Vietnam. In fact his appearance in Hanoi was the first official American cultural event since the war. It was jointly sponsored by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture and the U.S. Government.
Recently the Country Music Foundation asked Dan to contribute something for the Hall of Fame in Nashville. Dan was honored to give them one of his handmade fly fishing rods as well as the original scribblings on paper for the song "Wood".
Dan's intrigued by the history of the Seals family and has been working on a book outlining his family tree.
While staying at a Calgary hotel several years ago Dan was asked by Miss Nude World, Miss Nude Canada and some exotic dancers to pose for publicity pictures with them. Dan, although at a loss for words, posed with them but would only remove his hat. (Sorry guys-the girls were dressed)
Won't Be Blue Anymore was Dan's 1st country gold album.
Several years ago after a concert, a local newspaper columnist accused Dan of faking playing the sax in his column! Dan's manager soon got that straightened out. Anyone who's sat near the stage during Dan's concert knows that's not true.
A close call! In March Dan's office booked seats on TWA flight 800 to Paris. Dan was to do concerts in Paris and then another in Belgium. Monday afternoon the office received a call from Paris saying that the concert fell through. In talking it over they decided to switch flights and rebooked on a flight directly to Belgium that left 15 minutes earlier. As they sat in the lounge area they recognized some folks from Nashville getting ready to board flight 800 along with the students headed to Paris on their school trip. The next morning in Belgium they were awakened by calls from home "just to hear their voices" and informed of the crash.
"Bop" was the very 1st song played on the popular Club Dance TNN television program several years ago. When they celebrated their 1000 show they included "Bop" and invited Dan to take part in the celebration.
While in Russia a few years ago with the Baha'i Faith Choir to perform with the symphony orchestra in Russia, Dan witnessed the Russian uprising in Red Square. His hotel was just off Red Square and he saw the Russian tanks, civilans and soldiers going past his window. Once the fighting broke out the Russians placed the hotel and the choir under armed guard. The fighting started just after Dan finished his performance for the KGB and their families and ended the day they left Russia.
Dan became one of Charlie Chase's "Funny Business" victims. As Dan was picking up trash along the side of the highway, Charlie's people were driving past tossing out more. The cameras caught Dan getting upset but what they didn't catch was the fact that Dan's wife, Andi, almost got hit by some of the trash that was thrown out. To add insult to injury, part of Dan's management team was involved too!
Did you know that Dan's cousins are : Troy Seals, Brady Seals, and Johnny Duncan. His uncle is the late Chuck Seals.
