MINNESOTA STATE FAIR

ST PAUL, MINNESOTA

SEPTEMBER 3-6, 1999

As expected, Dan took command of the stage from the start. Coming out and immediately opening with the upbeat "Big Wheels In The Moonlight" his professionalism shown through. It was obvious from the start that many in the audience were long time fans and knew his music.

I find it particularly interesting to listen to those around me talking about the three musicians on the stage. Most are completely blown away by the quality of the show and the talent of the trio. One gentleman was starting to leave just before Dan's show. He didn't want to sit through some "darn" acoustic junk. I managed to talk him into trying them for a song or two - perhaps he wanted to humor me. Two songs later he leaned over and said "they're not bad". About six songs into the show he leaned over again and said "they're darn good". I wasn't surprised to see him sitting up front for the afternoon show clapping and cheering at the end of each song. It's nice seeing people discover something that you've already known for years!

Dan craftily worked his shows so that a variety of songs were covered and most people were able to walk away happy after hearing one of their favorites during the shows. Many fans stayed to speak with Dan after each of the shows and he patiently met with each one.

The Amazing Rhythm Aces brought back some wonderful songs. It was nice seeing even some of the younger audience members singing along. Some of you might just remember Russell Smith from his "Run C & W" videos of a couple of years ago. They were pretty funny.
