Dash Crofts

Born August 14, 1940 in Cisco, Texas, Dash's musical interests started early.  By the age of 5 he was already playing the piano.  Within a few years he was playing drums in a local band.   Dash at one time dreamed of playing professional baseball.  Dash's real name is Darrell and his twin sister is Dorothy which led to the creation of his nickname "Dash".   His mother gave nicknames to the duo of "Dot & Dash".

Dash filled the vacany with The Crew Cuts when Jimmy suggested him to the group.  With the break up of the Champs, Dash and Jimmy filled a void left by the break up.  Dash took a break from the Champs in 1962 to serve with the Army at Fort Bragg.  After the break up of the Champs, Dash remained in Los Angeles working as a session player and then returned to Texas.  He was asked to return and play drums for The Mushrooms.  It was around that time that he met Billy Lee, whom he later married and divorced several years later.  Not satisfied with what they were doing, Dash and Jim started to work on what would turn out to be "Seals & Crofts" by adding instruments, working out arrangements, etc.

Like everything else, success if followed by a downward trend.  With the changes in musical taste, the duo found that their albums were not as successful and decided to call it quits while still on top.  Dash has spent time in Australia, Nashville, and Texas.  In 1990 - 1992 Jimmy and Dash did a reunion type of tour which traveled around the country.  In 2000 Dash released a solo album "Dash Crofts, Today" which didn't fail too well.  2004 saw the release of another Seals & Crofts albumed called "Traces".  You can find more out about Dash at the Seals & Crofts site.
